With the MX1 championship decided last weekend at Conondale and Jed Beaton wrapping up the title, the focus was now on the runner up position with Beaton’s CDR Yamaha teammate, Aaron Tanti, tied on points with Kyle Webster. It was down to the last two races, and who ever scored the most points at QMP, would also take second in the championship.
Not only did Tanti finish ahead of Webster for the weekend, but he also won the final round making it back-to-back round wins for him and storming home in the championship. Tanti finished with 2-1 results to claim the win and confirm he is back to his best after a couple of injury interrupted years.
“I won last week at Conondale also, but this one feels much better to me,” Tanti explains. “I felt like I stumbled over the line to get the round win last week as I should have won the final moto, but this feels like I earned it. I won the last race of the season, and was probably my best ride of the year, so Imp round of that and of the effort everyone on the team put in.”
For Beaton, the championship victory also bought on a change of mindset, and he was out to enjoy the weekend. Beaton will be the first to admit is riding on the weekend wasn’t his best, but with the championship already sewn up and a trip to the US on the cards for later in the week, it’s easy to understand why.
“I didn’t ride great all weekend but was still able to land on the podium for the round and it was great to see Aaron get up and make it a team 1-2 for the championship. Both of us have had some pretty major injuries in the last couple of years so we have been on similar paths, so congrats to him for a strong finish to the season.
“Last week was a big relief for me to get the championship so this weekend wasn’t about trying to make any statements but rather get through the weekend safely and then get back into my normal routine as I still have a lot of racing do to in the coming months.
“Thanks to the team on a great season and hopefully even better things are just around the corner,” he ends.
